Close Quarters / About this guide

What Close Quarters stores

Checked October 8, 2026By the Map Room

Close Quarters keeps little in your browser, but it does count visits without cookies, and the statistics service sees which page you read, plus your IP address and browser. Two small settings stay in the reader's own browser, and A cookie-free visitor counter reports every page view to an outside tallying service, along with your IP address and browser details. Numbers typed into calculators never leave your browser..

Two settings, one browser

Setting one is the choice between a light and a dark theme. The reader chooses it a single time, and sessionStorage holds that choice in the same browser tab. Closing the tab clears it.

On the home page, the radius slider runs from 0.5 km to 70 km and starts at 3 km. The browser remembers the last radius chosen, using localStorage, so the map opens at the same distance on the next visit. Neither value is sent by the site itself, since both stay in the reader's browser, but the visit counter, which uses no cookies, still shows the statistics service the page title and your IP address. To remove the radius, clear the site data for calgarycasino.online in the browser's settings. The slider then goes back to 3 km, a modest reach for a map that runs out to the foothills.

What the guide never asks for

Close Quarters has no forms or accounts, and its only counting is a small visit counter that sets no cookies, though the statistics service does see the referring page, your IP address and your browser. It never asks for an email address, a name or a phone number, because there is no box to type one into. Since the guide is not a casino, with no cashier and no bets placed, it has no need to know its readers.

Home page links bearing the Ad label are paid, and they take readers to a partner operating an online casino. A commission goes to the site for these links, and the partner may be swapped. A reader who follows one of these links leaves this guide and lands on the partner's site, which has its own privacy rules. No paid link appears on any inner page. Links to venues, regulators and help services are not paid.

Questions

Does the site use cookies?

The two settings it keeps are not cookies. The theme is held in sessionStorage for the open tab, and the map radius in localStorage in the browser. Neither is sent anywhere, and the site runs no analytics and no accounts.

Does the open-now mark know where I am?

No, it only reads the clock. The browser compares its own time with weekly hours kept in Calgary time, the America/Edmonton time zone. Holiday hours are left out; a visit to the venue's own site settles those.
