Who pays for Close Quarters
Checked October 8, 2026By the Map Room
One source keeps Close Quarters running: commission from an online casino partner, which comes in through the Ad-marked links on the home page. Nothing else pays for the map, the distances or the casino pages.
Where the money comes from
On the front page there are three paid links, and every one of them carries the label Ad. One sits in the menu. Just below the first screen, a block holds the second one, while the third appears near the bottom of the page. The three of them point to one online casino partner.
Close Quarters earns a commission from that partner. That commission is how the guide pays for itself. Because that partner may change, its name does not appear on this page.
No paid link appears on any inner page. There are no ads of any type on the casino pages, the distance notes or the page about online play in Alberta. A page about which casino stands next to which stays a page about geography. Readers who never open the home page never see an ad.
Who does not pay
Venues, operators, the province and help services all pay this site nothing, not a single cent from any of them. No casino on the map bought its place there, and none paid for a description. Links to the casinos' own sites, to regulators and to help services are not paid links. They are there because a reader may need them.
Readers get no rewards from the guide, and nothing is offered for a visit or a click. Close Quarters is not a casino either. It accepts no bets and runs no accounts or cashier, and it has no tie to any venue or operator. It is a map with notes attached.
The rules the ads follow
Anyone who advertises an online gaming site in Alberta must follow AGLC's standards, and that includes this guide. Each ad must carry a responsible gambling message. Ads may not aim at minors, feature anyone who looks like a minor, or tie gaming to status or attractiveness. In Alberta, people may gamble legally once they turn 18.
A reader can also check any online operator directly. The directory of registered iGaming sites kept by AiGC sits at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. When an operator cannot be found in that directory, it is not regulated. The AiGC logo marks approved operators.
Questions
Does a casino pay to be on the map?
No casino pays to be on the map. Venues, operators, the province and help services all pay this site nothing, not a single cent from any of them. Each casino has one map point, and no casino pays for it.
Why is there an ad at all?
The commission from the online casino partner is what pays for the guide. Nobody else pays this site. Three paid links exist, every one placed on the home page and marked Ad; no other page has any.
Does the partner change?
Since the partner behind the paid links may be swapped, the guide leaves it unnamed. Whichever partner it is, all three links lead to that same one, and inner pages carry none.
